Hopkins International Polo, now in its third year at Trinity Park, has signed a major sponsorship deal with Ipswich Audi and Ipswich Volkswagen as part of a growing commitment from the region’s businesses to this relatively new sports fixture.

The two dealerships, part of Marriott Motor Group, will sponsor the new VIP lounge which hosts all-day hospitality for about 400 people. With culinary support by Milsoms Catering and award-winning property developer James Hopkins as lead sponsor to the event, the combination is seeking to put the county on the international polo map.

David Canham, Ipswich Audi head of business, said: “Audi has established its name with polo as the major sponsor of the England polo team. This sponsorship is our way of encouraging more awareness of polo in Suffolk.”

Tim Hargraves, brand manager at Ipswich Volkswagen, added: “It provides us a great opportunity to show our excellent range of vehicles in front of a relatively new audience in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.”

They are pictured with Angus and Henrietta Craven, son and daughter of James Craven, the Suffolk-based patron of the Las Marias team. Las Marias, which comprises mainly Argentinian polo players who play high goal matches around the world, will, thanks to Mr Craven’s generosity, again be bringing its team for a special exhibition match on the day which also features an international between Wales and England.

Overall sponsorship for the event on Sunday June 29, is up by £12,500, representing not only other new interest, but also uplift by many of the sponsors who initially backed the new initiative. Archant, Adnams, J M Finn, Bruisyard Hall, Binders, Brewin Dolphin, Savills and Jordon Fencing are among the other major sponsors.
