Tributes have been paid to a Felixstowe fundraiser described as a “human dynamo” for the energy she put into so many good causes.

Jane Bolton was one of the few people to receive two Mayor’s Awards – in 2007 and 2018 – to honour her outstanding community work.

She helped run fairs and markets for the Old Felixstowe Community Association (OFCA) for nearly 20 years, including her own stall, raising tens of thousands of pounds for the association and other causes.

Her garage was a treasure trove of items she collected to sell for OFCA and other charities including Felixstowe coast patrol boat, Heathside Special School, League of Friends of Felixstowe Hospitals, the FACTS dial-a-ride bus, girl guides, and East Anglian Air Ambulance.

She was a member of many local organisations, including Felixstowe Fuchsia Society and involved in helping to plan the fuchsia beds in the Spa Gardens below Cliff Cafe, where she could be seen tending the plants from time to time. She organised the town’s annual best dressed Christmas shop window competition.

She also dressed the Christmas tree at the Salvation Army for OFCA every year.

Jane, of Wentworth Drive, Old Felixstowe, died at the age of 83 at St Elizabeth Hospice last month after battling illness for some time. A funeral service was held at Seven Hills Crematorium at Nacton.

Town and district councillor Doreen Savage said Jane was always cheerful and friendly.

She said: “You could be assured of a warm hug whenever you met her. She was also responsible for planning the very successful Summer Fair at OFCA and even though this year she was ill in the hospice was sending messages through to other volunteers about this year’s event, ensuring it was a huge success.

“She loved ‘dressing up’ and took part in the Halloween Spooky Nights at Landguard Fort where she would dress up as a ghost!

“Felixstowe has lost a committed and caring member of its community with Jane’s death – but those of us who counted her as a dear friend will ensure that her memory remains bright and shining – just like her.”

Jane lived most of her life in and around Felixstowe and attended Felixstowe Grammar School.
