A RAVE which attracted hundreds of revellers to a Suffolk village hall prompted noise and disorder complaints from residents, police said yesterday.

Officers were called to the unlicensed party, held at Norton, near Bury St Edmunds, on Friday and the rave finally dispersed at around 2.20am on Saturday morning.

It prompted the area's senior police officer to issue a warning to community centre and village hall administrators to be vigilant and to carefully check bookings.

A man giving false details booked the village hall at Norton at the last minute for a 21st birthday party, but it swiftly turned into a rave and seven police officers were drafted in after locals complained.

Mid Suffolk district police commander, Ch Insp NealAtwell, said: “These types of unlicensed events cause disruption to the local community and can leave the owners of the venues with huge clean-up and repair bills.

“I would ask that those who manage the bookings at village halls or similar locations make sure that they are confident the event is legitimate, and the names and addresses they are provided with are genuine.”

He said investigations were ongoing into the unlicensed event and called on anyone with information about the Norton rave should contact PC David Clarke on 01473 613500. There were no reports of any damage to the hall.
