Hundreds of rail passengers were left stranded on a platform between London and their destinations on the mainline last night after a broken down train caused disruption.
Services between Shenfield and Colchester came to a halt after a train broke down shortly after 9.30pm last night.
The breakdown at Chelmsford had an impact on trains between London Liverpool Street and Clacton-on-Sea, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich.
Former Ipswich Town captain Matt Holland was among passengers caught up in the disruption. At about midnight, he tweeted: “Shenfield is a nice place but it’s losing its appeal after staring at its platform for the last hour”.
Abellio Greater Anglia said normal service was expected to resume this morning.
