AN arson hunt was under way today after someone intentionally set fire to an Ipswich home.

Suffolk police said officers were urgently appealing for help in tracing those responsible for the fire, which caused damage to a back door of a house in Robeck Road at about 9.40pm yesterday.

It is believed someone placed a cardboard box at the back door of the house before setting it on fire.

The blaze caused damage to the door, the door frame and guttering overhead.

Fortunately a man at the address noticed the smell of smoke and saw the fire and alerted the fire service and police.

Firefighters from the Princes Street fire station were sent to the scene and brought the flames under control by 9.53pm.

Suffolk police is treating the blaze as arson with intent to endanger life and has asked anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area, or who may have information about the offender, to call Pc Mireille Bailey at Ipswich police on 01473 613500.
