Police have issued 17 tickets for illegal parking in just one Bury St Edmunds street.

Bury Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) cracked down on vehicles parking illegally in St John’s Street on Thursday, December 14, and issued Fixed Penalty Notices.

They tweeted: “Vehicles should not be parked on the path or in loading bays unless loading or unloading.

“Illegally parked vehicles today have forced members of public into the road.”

Retired photographer Tom Murray, who is known for capturing stars including the Beatles, Tweeted it was “great” to see lots of parking tickets dished out in the street.

Mr Murray, who is also a Bury St Edmunds town councillor, added: “It’s our best street for small independent traders. They need our custom and help not pavement parkers blocking the way.”
