The hospital was rated as “inadequate” by the Care Quality Commission in January this year.

In an email sent to the 3,400 members of staff at the hospital, Chief Executive Dr Lucy Moore said the trust faced financial difficulties, the BBC reported.

Dr Moore said only non-clinical roles were expected to be lost and compulsory redundancies “could not be ruled out” but would be “few in number”.

She added: “The majority of the reduction will be achieved by not recruiting to posts that are currently vacant, by restructuring our corporate services and by redeploying staff.”
