A 17-year-old boy is still in custody today following a stabbing in an Ipswich park last night.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident in Alderman Park, off Alderman Road, and near to the Portman Road football stadium, at just before 6pm yesterday.

Officers arrived to find a teenage boy with stab wounds. The boy was initially believed to be 16 years old, but it has now been confirmed he is 18.

The teenager, who is believed to be Croatian, suffered serious stab wounds to his shoulder and arm.

A critical care paramedic and doctor from emergency medical charity Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) were also mobilised to the scene.

The 18-year old was treated at the scene by the SARS team before being taken to Ipswich Hospital by paramedics for treatment.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested by officers on suspicion of GBH (grievous bodily harm) following the incident and taken into custody for questioning at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

The 18-year-old victim’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
