Ipswich: Airborne search for suspected shoplifters

Police scanned Ipswich from the air in search of a man and woman who allegedly stole coats worth nearly 1,000 from a town centre shop.

One man was arrested at Blacks outdoor clothing store in Tavern Street, shortly after a reported theft at 9.20am this morning.

Police said an off duty officer detained one man but that another man and a woman evaded capture, running off in the direction of a nearby car park.

The police helicopter was mobilised to try and locate the pair, who were reportedly spotted near The Smock pub in Maidenhall, and on the grounds of Stoke High School just after 2pm.

Police said they know the identities of both the man and woman and would continue to make enquiries until they are located.
