Firefighters rescued a baby from a lift after five people became trapped in a high street store.

The drama unfolded at the Marks & Spencer department store in Westgate Street after a lift broke down at around 2pm, a Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.

Firefighters rescued the five stranded people, which included a newborn baby, by 2.20pm.

An M&S spokesman said: “There was an incident in-store today involving one of the store’s lifts, which has since been inspected and repaired. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
