There’s no love lost when it comes to the rivalry between Ipswich Town and Norwich City - but it will be a very different story for little Jenson Bartrum.

The tot’s mum Emma is a passionate Canaries fan while dad Jason is an ardent follower of the Super Blues.

So the proud parents have compromised and taken the difficult decision that their first-born can support both East Anglian rivals.

“We’re still arguing over who he should support,” joked Jason, 26.

“I bought him an Ipswich shirt before he was born and someone gave us a Norwich City hat and mittens.

“As our first-born I want him to support Ipswich but Emma feels the same about Norwich - so if he wants to follow both teams that’s fine by us.

“The most important thing is he likes his football.”

Little Jenson was born on September 1, weighing 7lb 13oz.

But despite the fact he can’t yet walk or talk, his footy-mad parents are already preparing him for life as a Blue and a Yellow.

The couple, who met at Diss High School and who now live in the town’s Ensign Way, are already planning Jenson’s first visits to Carrow Road and Portman Road.

“Once he is old enough I would love to take him to Portman Road,” said Jason, who works for an engineering firm.

“But if he would rather go to watch Norwich, that’s fine too.”

Emma, 26, gave up her Norwich City season ticket this summer to concentrate on looking after Jenson after ten years as a regular at Carrow Road.

“I hope he is more of a Norwich fan but it’s up to him,” she said.

“Everyone tells me he won’t even like football now!

“I hope we can take him to a derby match in the future - hopefully with both teams in the Premier League.”
