Orwells Butchers, which has been trading in Ipswich for 30 years, will open a new store on Walton High Street in Felixstowe following a £157,000 loan from NatWest.

A popular Ipswich butcher is expanding his 30-year-old business after receving a £150,000 funding package from a major banking chain.

Martin Wells, owner of Orwells Butchers, will be investing his £157,000 loan from NatWest in an additional premises in Felixstowe.

The money will cover the purchase of a freehold building on Walton High Street, which has now been transformed into a fully operational butchers shop.

Mr Wells started at Orwells Butchers, previously known as the Meat Inn, as an apprentice sausage maker in 1987. He went on to buy the business in 1995.

He said: “With the popularity of the shop, expansion has always been on the cards but it wasn’t until I spotted the freehold in Felixstowe that I seriously began to consider it. With the help of NatWest, I’ve been able to access the finance needed to take advantage of the opportunity to expand and turn my business dream into a reality.”
