FEARS that his father’s ashes had been scattered by his former girlfriend have led to Stefan Arbon being kept in custody today.

The 42-year-old was awaiting his trial for harassment when he breached his bail conditions just after midnight last Friday, Ipswich magistrates heard.

Arbon – now of no fixed abode, but formerly of Coltsfoot Road, Ipswich – admitted the breach when he appeared in court.

Prosecutor Wayne Ablett said Arbon had previously pleaded guilty criminal damage, but denied harassing of his former partner.

The case had been adjourned until Wednesday and Arbon was given bail. One of the conditions was that he did not return to the home they had shared in Coltsfoot Road.

However, the court was told police were called to the address early last Friday after his ex-girlfriend told them he was trying to get into the property.

When an officer arrived Arbon was found in a summerhouse in the rear garden of the premises. He had originally stayed there after the couple had split up.

Mr Ablett said Arbon told the officer he was picking up his belongings and other items, namely his father’s ashes.

The magistrates heard Arbon had been with his partner for three years before they split up around two months ago.

On the night he breached bail he should have been staying in temporary accommodation at Cavendish Lodge in Turret Lane, but when he tried to get a room there was a queue, the court was told.

Arbon was drunk and reluctant to queue, so went back to Coltsfoot Road with the intention of collecting the ashes.

Sue Threadkell, representing Arbon, described her client’s actions as misguided.

It was said Arbon was keen to check on the safety of his father’s remains, because he was told his former partner had scattered them.

His plea to be released on conditional bail for a second time until his harassment trial failed.

Magistrates remanded Arbon in custody until Wednesday.
