Sybil Bishop met her future husband William, known as Bill, when he was posted to her family home in Ilford while he was serving for the Royal Air Force.

The pair were married on June 5, 1943 and have two children, Stephen and Anthony.

They moved to Ipswich when Mr Bishop, 96, retired.

Mrs Bishop, 94, now lives in The Willows residential home, while Mr Bishop resides at Park View care home as he needs extra support.

The couple met for a celebration and buffet among family on Tuesday.

Reflecting on what makes her husband so special, Mrs Bishop said: “He was always very kind and he always looked after us.”

When asked for the secret to a long and happy marriage, Mrs Bishop said the couple simply “just worked at it”.
