Scores of people take part in the annual Ipswich Defeat Dementia Walk

Scores of people linked up on the Waterfront for the Ipswich Defeat Dementia Walk over the half kilomathon and half-marathon.

The two distances of 13.1km and 13.1 miles were tackled by a host of walkers who set off at noon from the Cult Cafe taking in some of the town’s best known sites before returning to the starting venue. The shorter walk was open to people as young as 16 to encourage more families to get involved.

Sponsors for this year’s event were OneLife Suffolk, East of England Co-op, Ipswich Dementia Action Alliance, Ipswich Town FC’s ‘Crazee’, Home Instead and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

It’s not yet known how much was raised by this year’s walk but having raised £22,000 and £16,000 at the 2016 and 2017 event, this year’s event increased its entrant capacity and fundraising potential by expanding to 300 walkers – 150 in each walk distance - and had a target of £26,200.

There were drinks stations located along the two routes to help the walkers on their way to their journey’s end.
