IPSWICH: Firefighters were called to help rescue a dog from a freezing river.

A water rescue team and fire engine from Princes Street station were sent to the river off Felaw Maltings, in Felaw Street, just after 5.30pm.

They stretched a rescue line across nine metres of water from a mud path to reach the dog, which was in the river for around half an hour.

At around 6.05pm the dog had been safely pulled from the water.
