A DRINK-driver is banned from the road today after having to call police when her car got stuck on a railway line.

Claire Augusto, of St Osyth Close, Ipswich, was more than twice the drink-drive limit her vehicle broke down on the track in Felixstowe on February 16.

The 30-year-old admitted driving a vehicle when above the legal alcohol limit.

She also pleaded guilty to causing an obstruction on a railway line at her first appearance before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court.

After adjourning the case for a pre-sentence report magistrates banned Augusto from driving for 24 months.

They also gave her a one-year community order with a supervision requirement.

In addition Augusto was ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation to Network Rail for the problems she caused after obstructing the railway line.

Augusto drove along the tracks at the Walton Avenue level crossing, near the disused Beach Road station at around 4.30am.

Her Kia Picanto got stuck on the line and she was forced to ring police to tell them she had broken down on the railway track.

Officers from Suffolk Constabulary and police from Felixstowe port were despatched to the scene.

When they arrived Augusto was said to be unsteady on her feet and her speech was slurred.

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said she was unable to provide a breath test at the scene.

Augusto was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and taken into custody.

A subsequent breath test showed she had 91 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.
