TWO Millwall fans have been charged with assaulting British Transport Police (BTP) officers following Ipswich Town’s game with the London club.

The men are now due to appear before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court later this month.

The pair – believed to be a father and son – were arrested on suspicion of assault following Town’s 3-0 defeat at Portman Road in April.

Daniel Smith, 19, of Restons Crescent, Greenwich, and Barry Smith, 50, of Southlands Grove, Bromley, Kent, were detained after an alleged incident outside Ipswich Railway Station at around 5.45pm on April 21 as fans were making their way home.

It is understood one BTP officer sustained facial injuries in the alleged incident.

The Smiths were released on bail pending further enquiries.

They answered their bails on Friday last week when they were charged with assault.

Both men will appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 18.
