A man arrested by detectives investigating a serious sexual assault in Stowmarket has been released on bail.

The victim – a 19-year-old woman – told officers she was raped at around 2am on Sunday in the vicinity of the Recreation Ground.

She is being supported by specialist trained officers, as detectives have continued enquiries into the incident, including forensic and CCTV work.

Yesterday, a 45-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of rape and taken to Bury St Edmunds Investigation Centre for questioning. He has been released on bail until Tuesday, May 1, pending further enquiries.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of the Recreation Ground between 1.30am and 2.30am on Sunday morning and who may have any information relating to this incident to contact them.
