An Ipswich man has been locked up for 22 months after a judge finally lost patience with his repeated breaches of court orders.

Last year Shaun Cattermole was given a suspended prison sentence after nearly 400 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine were found at a house where he was living.

On that occasion Ipswich Crown Court heard that police officers raided a property in Turin Street, Ipswich, and discovered 208 wraps of crack cocaine and 177 wraps of heroin.

Cattermole, 27, of Turin Street, admitted permitting the premises to be used for the supply of heroin and cocaine and absconding while on bail and was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and a 50 day rehabilitation activity requirement after Judge Martyn Levett decided not to send him straight to prison.

Today (Tuesday) Cattermole was back before the court and admitted breaching two suspended sentence orders, 11 offences of theft and failing to attend a probation appointment.

Jailing him for 22 months Judge Levett told Cattermole: “On the last occasion I warned you that if you appeared in breach again you would be on the prison bus rather than leaving through the door.”

He said he had given Cattermole a chance when he gave him a suspended prison sentence in October last year and had then given him another chance in January this year by giving him another suspended sentence.

He said Cattermole had failed to comply with the terms of the suspended sentences and had also failed to complete any hours of a 200 hour unpaid work order made in January

“You have failed to attend appointments on several occasions and you have committed 11 further offences of theft, said the judge.

He said the thefts during which Cattermole stole items including alcohol, a television and a carpet cleaner, had an element of planning.

Russell Butcher, prosecuting, said the total amount of property stolen during the 11 thefts was more than £2,000.

Kelly Fernandez-Lee for Cattermole said her client was expecting the suspended prison sentences to be activated following the comments made by the judge during the sentencing hearing in January.

She asked the court to give Cattermole credit for his guilty pleas.
