Terrified young mum Katy Jones today told how having a meat cleaver held to her throat has wrecked her life.

The 22-year-old was subjected to a terrifying robbery by Ali Todd and Derrel Youngs as they forced their way into her house, ransacked it, made threats and then escaped with cash and a mobile phone.

Yesterday Youngs, formerly of Whitland Close, Ipswich, was sentenced to 10 years in prison at Ipswich Crown Court after admitting robbery.

In May Ali Todd, 23, of Woodcock Road, Ipswich, admitted robbing Miss Jones with eight offences of burglary to be taken into consideration and was also jailed for 10 years.

Miss Jones, who did not know Youngs or Todd, said: “I feel bitter towards them because they have ruined my life. They don’t care. They have no remorse. They are nothing as far as I’m concerned.

“I’m an absolute wreck at the moment. I honestly didn’t think I was going to get out alive.

“Every day I’m having six to 10 panic attacks. Every noise I hear I think ‘oh my God, what’s happening’.

“I have had to move to the other end of town from my family and I feel isolated. It’s a nightmare.”

Miss Jones, who has a three-year-old daughter, said she was decorating her flat in Winchester Way in March when she heard a knock on the front door of the property.

She went to answer it and saw Todd standing there.

He asked for her boyfriend Gavin, but when Miss Jones told Todd he was out she said he just stared at her.

She said: “It clicked that he didn’t know Gavin. I shut the door. He grabbed it to pull it open. I then got hold of it and attempted to lock it, but Derrel Youngs pulled the door open.

“Ali pulled out a meat cleaver. I tried to run out of the door, but they pushed me back towards the flat.

“Ali grabbed me by the hair and held the meat cleaver to my throat. Derrel shut the door and locked it.”

Todd dragged Miss Jones upstairs. Although she tried to use her mobile phone he pushed it to the floor.

Miss Jones said: “He passed the meat cleaver to Derrel who then held me in the kitchen while Ali went through the flat looking for money.

“They were just ransacking everything.

“I then got pushed into the front room and Ali was saying to Derrel ‘I don’t trust her – you have got to kill her, Derrel’. They kept mentioning they wanted to stab me.”

Miss Jones said they eventually stopped when there was a knock at the door.

“When I heard the knock I thought it was someone coming to finish me off.

“It was like something out of a film. I was completely and utterly numb.”

Miss Jones said when Todd and Youngs heard someone was at the door they put a claw hammer they also had in a rucksack, along with items including a mobile phone and £400 cash, before strolling out of the door as if nothing had happened.

Although she did not know either man she recognised Todd as he used to play football with her father.

She believes the pair carried out the raid after being told there would be money and valuable hi-tech equipment in the flat.
