A WOMAN is fighting for her life in hospital after a crash in Ipswich last night.

The woman, aged 57 and from Ipswich, was injured after her Piaggio scooter collided with a Vauxhall Corsa at the junction of Colchester Road and Westbury Road just before 8.30pm.

East of England Ambulance Service despatched a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene.

Spokesman Richard Dunne said: “The patient was conscious and breathing but breathing quite poorly and was not fully alert.

“The patient had sustained head and trauma injuries.”

She was taken by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital but has since been transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where she is in a critical condition.

The driver of the Corsa, an 18-year-old man, from Ipswich, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

He has been bailed until June 8 to return to Martlesham police investigation centre pending further inquiries.
