POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a 72-year-old was targeted by a thief.
The woman was walking along Clarkson Street, at 2.15pm yesterday, when a man ran from Benezet Street and grabbed her handbag.
He ran off turning right into London Road.
The victim was not harmed during the incident.
The offender is described as a man of medium height and was wearing a dark coat with a hood.
Police are not linking this to other incidents at this time.
To reduce the risk of robbery, police have urged members of the public to ensure they keep bags closed.
Other advice includes carrying bags across the body, not advertising valuables and carrying a personal attack alarm.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call DC Ruth Hayter from Ipswich Priority Crime Team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
