AN investigation into a rape allegation in Ipswich has been closed, police said today.

A woman in her 20s reported being attacked in Murray Road in the town on February 25 but police are now satisfied no rape or other crime took place.

They have confirmed no further action will be taken against the 22-year-old man who was arrested on March 7 on suspicion of rape.

Detective Chief Inspector David Cutler, who led the investigation said, “As a result of a robust investigation in to this allegation I am satisfied that no criminal activity took place.

“We have a duty to investigate allegations of crimes and had to be 100% sure that no offences had occurred.”

He added: “The female is now very reassured that she was not subjected to an attack. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the media and the public for their assistance in this enquiry.”
