A thief who swiped £2,600 from a shop safe after previously shoplifting electric razors worth nearly £1,000 has been jailed.

Sean O’Brien, of Downside Close, Ipswich, was given a total of eight months’ imprisonment when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court.

The 26-year-old admitted three counts of theft and one charge of burglary.

The burglary occurred when O’Brien went to McColl’s convenience store in Stoke Park Drive, Ipswich, at around 7am on February 2.

When he was inside a member of staff was distracted after the safe had been opened.

O’Brien took the opportunity to nip into the shop’s office and remove cash from the safe.

He put £2,640 into the side pocket of his coat before calmly walking out of the premises.

O’Brien was arrested after police viewed closed circuit television images.

On January 20 O’Brien went into Sainsbury in London Road, Ipswich, where he took two electric wet and dry razors.

Their total value came to £400.

On February 1 O’Brien stole another wet and dry electric razor from Tesco in Copdock.

Its value was £140.

On the same day O’Brien then went into Boots in Stowmarket where he shoplifted two more electric wet and dry razors.

They were worth a total of £359.98.

Following his guilty pleas O’Brien was jailed for six months for the burglary at McColls and received a further two months’ in consecutive jail terms for the three thefts.
