An Ipswich drugs den has been shut down and its tenant evicted, police and a housing association have said.

The eviction comes after complaints from residents in Riverside Road.

Flagship Housing took the matter to court to get the tenant thrown out.

It is understood it was alleged dealers from the London area were using the house as a base and would also go out to sell drugs before returning.

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary’s Ipswich Central Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “A number of concerns were raised from members of the community in Riverside Road that drugs were being dealt from an address on a regular basis.

“Officers worked with residents to gather information which led police to take prompt positive action.

“Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, officers detained a man who left the address and searched him in police custody.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs.

“Shortly afterwards police gained entry to the property in Riverside Road to arrest the occupants on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

“A quantity of cash was seized from the premises pending further investigation.

“Flagship Housing have since gained control of the premises and evicted the tenant.

“This case shows that drug dealing will not be tolerated in Ipswich and we will work together in partnership with local housing authorities to address any problems that the community highlights to us.

“Any other residents that are experiencing similar issues in their area are encouraged to call police on 101 and ask to be put through to their safer neighbourhood team to report the problem.”

A spokesman for Flagship Housing added: “We take the wellbeing and safety of our customers very seriously. Flagship does not tolerate any anti social behaviour that impacts on our customers and the wider community and this includes the possession and supply of Class A drugs.”
