As the first full week of work of 2018 starts on Monday, people heading into Ipswich town centre will face new roadworks on two of the busiest routes into town.

Eight weeks of roadworks start on Monday at the junction of Nacton Road and Maryon Road, near the Golden Hind pub.

The traffic lights are being replaced and the road junction widened as part of the £5m programme to improve traffic flows into the town.

On the other side of Ipswich, Norwich Road will have six weeks of roadworks while Cadent – formerly National Grid Gas – installs a new main near the railway bridge.

There will be temporary lights near the junctions with Cromer Road and Ashcroft Road, and the junctions of Cromer Road, Kelvin Road and Lister Road will be closed while the work is carried out.

The work is expected to slow traffic heading in and out of the town centre and disrupt bus services.
