Ipswich Round Table has appointed its new chairman – having recently handed over more than £16,000 to charity Fresh Start - New Beginnings at their recent AGM.
Grant Houlden will take up the role at the head of the table as the organisation continues a packed year of community support events.
He takes the reins from Tommy Cheung, who in his final act as chairman presented a cheque for £16,534 to Fresh Start - New Beginnings CEO David Hockley and founder Diana Porter MBE at the Round Table’s AGM.
At the presentation, Mr Hockley said the money would be used to create a new group therapy room at their premises in Ipswich and would provide vital support for children and young people who have reported being sexually abused, and their families.
The money was raised though the Round Table’s Enchanted Woodland charity ball, which was held at the town hall in Ipswich on April 28.
In his new role as chairman of the Ipswich Greyfriars Round Table, one of hundreds of round table groups across the country, Mr Houlden will help them organise the group’s popular social events which raise thousands for good causes in the Ipswich area.
These include their flagship events, the December Rudolph Run and the Copdock Bike Show.
Mr Houlden said he was looking forward to his time as chairman of the group.
He said: “Ipswich Round Table as an organisation has grown in the last couple of years with over 30 members regularly attending events.
“I am looking forward to leading our group as we help more people in our local community through our fundraising activities.”
He said he was delighted how much money the group managed to raise at its charity ball.
Mr Houlden said: “We worked hard to organise this event and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of many local businesses and individuals including, Ryans Insurance, East of England Co-op, Botanica plant nursery, Prestige Bars, Bouquet Garni caterers, Beechlake Developments, Coes of Ipswich and Yeo Group and many, many more who donated prizes and gave their time to make this event a success.”
