A SQUASH coach has been warned that he could be jailed when he is sentenced in the New Year for offences of assault and putting a woman in fear of violence.

Martin Levens, 47, pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court to assaulting a woman causing her actual bodily harm on October 30, 2008, and putting the same woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in fear of violence between September 2006 and April 2009.

Adjourning the case until January 14 for a pre-sentence report, Judge Rupert Overbury told Levens: “I do not exclude the possibility that you will receive a custodial sentence as a result of your guilty pleas to these two offences.”

Levens, of no fixed address, had also denied an offence of rape but this will not be proceeded with following his pleas to the other two offences. The rape charge is expected to be formally disposed of at the sentencing hearing in January.

Levens was released on conditional bail.
