The game took place at Needham Market FC’s ground and aimed to raise money for the East Anglian Children’s Hospice.
It was organised by Kieren Standley, media officer for Ipswich Town Ladies and member of the Ipswich Town Talk podcast.
Kick off on the night was pushed back as players and supporters struggled to make it through poor traffic following problems on the A14 earlier in the afternoon.
The late kick off and rain on the night weren’t enough to put off those attending the game as a large crowd turned up to watch the clash and raise money.
It was a close run affair with Ipswich Town Talk running away with a 3-0 inside the early part of the first half.
Two goals and a penalty giving them the advantage.
Unfortunately for the boys the clean sheet did not last for long with the ladies piling in eight goals without response at the end of the first half and start of the second including a hat trick by midfielder Sophie Welton.
With little time left before the end of the game Town Talk managed to pull back two goals including one for Wickford Town FC player Will Neeller.
A goal which ended a nine year drought for the player.
The strike was promptly followed by another from Kieren Standley but not before members of both squads had piled on top of Will to congratulate him on his goal. The final score was 5-8 to the Ladies.
Speaking after the game Kieren Standley said: “I’m absolutely over the moon.
“Obviously it’s been a long time coming . We’ve been really excited for it for the last few months and to actually step out on the pitch tonight was just amazing.”
Despite the greater physicality of her male counterparts IIpswich Town Ladies Captain Amanda Crump was pleased with how her team played on the night.
“It was different for us, something that we had never done before,” said Amanda, “They were more physical.”
“I thought we went out there and got the ball down and we showed them what we had been doing for the rest of the season.”
In total the game raised £500 for EACH with both teams looking to make the game a more permanent fixture in their calenders.
