Adam Burt, of King’s Way, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to seven charges of criminal damage when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court.

All the vandalism occurred as the 18-year-old was leaving the town centre after a night out.

Prosecutor Lesla Small said a witness was in her home in Blanche Street, off Woodbridge Road, when she heard noises at around 5am on December 30.

When she looked out of a window, the witness saw three males, one of whom was kicking wing mirrors of parked cars in a “kung fu-style”.

The witness identified Burt to police as the person vandalising the cars.

Initially police found that six vehicles had been damaged, including two Ford Fiestas, two Ford Focus’, and a Vauxhall Astra.

In his police interview Burt said he had consumed a lot of alcohol when he was at an Ipswich nightclub with friends.

The court heard he had been on his way home to a friend’s house in Hervey Street when the vandalism occurred.

Burt admitted to an officer that he had kicked the wing mirrors and also ran over the top of a red vehicle.

The teenager was originally charged with six offences.

However, a seventh car owner subsequently came forward to say that the roof of his red Peugeot had been dented.

Magistrates were told that although Burt had no previous convictions, he had received a community resolution on November 11 last year for criminal damage to a wing mirror of a vehicle.

Ian Duckworth, representing Burt, said his client was no longer drinking alcohol as a result of what he had done.

Mr Duckworth added: “He realises, however, he’s got to make amends for what he has done. He was totally out of it. He’s deeply ashamed.”

Burt was given a community order with an 18-hour attendance centre requirement.

He was ordered to pay £60 to each of the vehicle owners whose wing mirrors he damaged. Burt must also compensate the owner of the red Peugeot who paid out £450 on his insurance company excess to repair the damage to his roof.
