IPSWICH: Three teenagers are among a group of the seven men due to appear in court accused of causing trouble on the night of the Ipswich v Norwich game.

Police said the men have all been charged with public order offences following last Thursday’s match.

Two of the teenagers, Aaron Wainwright, 19, of Springdale Crescent, Brundle, near Norwich, and James Taylor, 18, of Radcliffe Drive, Ipswich, are due to appear before Ipswich magistrates on Wednesday.

A Suffolk Constabulary police spokesman said the remaining five people are all due to appear before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 9.

The quintet include Christopher Bloomfield, 35, of Talbot Road, Sudbury; construction worker Anthony Burch, 43, of Phoenix Road, Ipswich, and Jordan Paddy, 19, of Maynewater Lane, Bury St Edmunds.

The final two defendants are factory worker Richard Robinson, 46, of Chainhouse Road, Needham Market, and Michael Smith, a 22-year-old construction worker from St Mary’s Road, Ramsey, near Huntingdon.

Another 24-year-old Ipswich man is due to answer his bail today after being arrested on the night of the game.

Police had previously cautioned a 32-year-old man from Norwich for possession of a class A drug.

More than 300 officers were on duty for the Ipswich v Norwich derby at Portman Road, which ended in a 5-1 defeat for the Blues. They were supported by the joint Norfolk and Suffolk dog unit and six mounted police officers from Essex.

Although the police operation was deemed a success by senior officers, the actions of a minority of Ipswich fans were condemned following the game. It came after the arrest of 19 supporters, and a further 13 ejections from the ground.
