POLICE are today expected to formally identify a man who died in a road crash near a supermarket.
The motorist, whose name may not be released until the coroner opens an inquest into the sudden death, was found to be dead after the red Toyota Corolla he was driving was in collision with another vehicle near Asda on Stoke Park Drive, Ipswich, on Friday.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the man – who is believed to have been in his 50s and from the Ipswich area. It is understood he took his own life.
The crash happened at about 9pm on Friday – forcing nearby stores to close early.
Andy Payne, who lives nearby, described the scene as “manic”, with up to five police cars and two fire engines present.
Paramedics said they treated a woman – believed to be the driver of the other vehicle – for minor injuries.
A police spokeswoman said investigators would still like to hear from any witnesses. Anyone with information should call the police’s non-emergency number 101.
