PEOPLE are being encouraged to pick up a book and discover a love of reading on World Book Night.

The global event on Tuesday, April 23, aims to attract people who don’t read regularly to visit a library.

Events will be going on across Suffolk to promote the benefits of reading.

Shona Bendix, chairman of Suffolk Libraries, said: “World Book Night is a great way of getting everyone involved and thinking about books and encouraging people to read more regularly and hopefully improve literacy.

“As always our library staff have come up with some great events and ideas to get involved in the event and I hope people will enjoy taking part.”

Ipswich County Library will be getting in the mood for a bedtime story with a Forty Winks storytelling event from 7pm to 9pm on April 23.

People can come along to the library in their pyjamas to enjoy the special night time event and relax with a hot chocolate or glass of wine listening to a storyteller.

Tickets will be £3 and will include a storytelling session, refreshments and a free book.

Westbourne and Gainsborough libraries are planning a joint pirate-themed evening where people can dress up in pirates costume and are giving away a limited amount of free copies of Treasure Island, which is one of the World Book Night books, from 5pm to 7pm.
