Ipswich/Wenhaston: Rape suspect arrested in escort agency prostitution probe

A 35-YEAR-old Ipswich rape suspect is on police bail today after being arrested during a inquiry into alleged prostitution at an escort agency.

The man was one of two people detained during three raids in Ipswich and another in north Suffolk.

A 28-year-old woman from Halesworth area was also taken into custody by detectives.

It is understood that the rape suspect was arrested at his home in Nelson Road, Ipswich.

He was taken to the Martlesham police investigation centre at Suffolk Constabulary’s headquarters where he was questioned by officers on suspicion of rape, controlled prostitution and money laundering.

The woman, who was taken to the police investigation centre, was quizzed by police after being held on suspicion of controlled prostitution.

Police also raided two other addresses in Ipswich, which are understood to be business premises.

One was in St Margaret’s Green, the other in Knightsdale Road.

The fourth warrant was executed by officers in Heath Road, Wenhaston.

Wenhaston Parish Council clerk Richard Day said he was “shocked” to hear about the allegations as the village was such a quiet place to live.

Yesterday’s raids were carried out as part of a lengthy inquiry after police received intelligence surrounding an escort agency.

The arrests were part of an operation carried out by Suffolk police with assistance from the Department of Work and Pensions.

In addition to the two arrests, officers seized computer equipment and vehicles.

Both suspects were subsequently released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

They must return to Martlesham police investigation centre on March 5.
