Here is our monthly look back at some of the criminals jailed in Suffolk and north Essex courts in June.

A teenager who burgled the home of a wheelchair basketball veteran was detained for 18 months in a young offender institution,

Ionut Majaru, 19, of Fore Street, Ipswich, was caught hiding in a flat in Granville Street with a stolen wristwatch, which was the property of former international athlete Kenny Mackay. An iPad and camera were also stolen and never returned to their owner, who received the items as a gift for attending the Beijing Paralympic Games. Majaru admitted the offence. He will have to spend a year on licence following his term of detention.

A welder who attacked his victim with an axe in front of two children was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in jail.

Ashley Braham, 35, of Conway Close, Haverhill, carried out the attack behind Tesco car park in Cangle Road. He admitted possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and grievous bodily harm, but said he found the weapon on his way to confront his victim for posting “explicit” images on social media.

Two fairground workers were jailed after being found guilty of the manslaughter by gross negligence of Summer Grant, aged seven, in a bouncy castle tragedy.

Married couple William Thurston, 29, and Shelby Thurston, 26, of Whitecross Road, Wilburton, were jailed for three years each. The inflatable which the girl was on was lifted from its moorings by a gust of wind, and sent 300m down a hill at a fair in Harlow.

A 29-year-old man was jailed for five years after he tried to sell drugs to an undercover police officer in Colchester.

James Mamali, of Canning Town, East London, was found to have £800 in cash, and to be concealing 46 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine in his bottom. He was found guilty of two counts of possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply and assaulting a police officer.

A Suffolk mother was jailed for 27 months for acting as a ‘taxi’ in a thwarted drug deal.

Joanne Birt, 31, of Ufford, near Woodbridge, was convicted of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs at an earlier trial. The court heard she chauffeured a dealer, and hid a golf ball-sized wad of drugs in her underwear.

A 37-year-old man from Essex was jailed for 32 months after pleading guilty to fraud.

Alan Gracie, 37, of Broadway, Jaywick, was trusted with his employer’s bank card to purchase stock, but spent almost £45,000 on personal items. The victim found out by looking at shopping receipts.

An Ipswich sex offender was jailed for seven-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to an attempted rape and three sexual assaults.

Sebastian Tynny, 36, of Sirdar Road, committed the offences against a teenage girl in the town in September 2016. Police thanked the victim for her “strength and resilience”.

A London drug dealer was put behind bars for three-and-a-half years after he was spotted by a plain-clothes police officer dealing drugs in an alleyway in Ipswich.

Kashief Laidley, 24, of Oakfield Road, Croydon, admitted being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin.

A 30-year-old man who kicked a clubber three times in the head while he was ‘out cold’ was jailed for 10 months.

Nicky Ramage, of Suckling Place, Woodton, Bungay, admitted carrying out the assault in Unit 17 nightclub in Ipswich in April this year. The judge said he had to send out a “loud and clear” message to anyone who used violence and caused injuries while drunk.
