A fund has been set up in memory of 19-year-old motorcyclist Jake Page, who was killed in a three-vehicle collision in Sudbury, as a special ride out has been held in his name.

The campaign to raise money was set up by his close friends Jake Schroeder and Emil Zys who are hoping that enough cash can be collected to help the family pay for his funeral.

They have set a target of £500 and so far have raised just over £100.

And it comes after 30 motorcyclists took to their bikes on Sunday to ride from the Bay Horse pub, in Melford Road, close to where the fatality happened, through the town and out to Great Waldingfield where the teenager lived.

They were joined on the way by other bikers and people en route paid their respects as they rode wearing jumpers with Jake’s picture on their backs.

Mr Zys said: “We did not think we would have that many on the ride but it was great and Jake’s family met up with us at the end of the ride. We started out by saying a prayer to him and we have set up a donation’s page online to help raise money for the family to help pay for his funeral or to give to the air ambulance who dealt with the crash.

“I was good friends with Jake and we had known each other for three or four years. He loved bikes and we rode out at weekends to places like Colchester, Ipswich and Clacton,” said the 19-year-old bricklayer and restaurant supervisor.

“I saw the crash but it wasn’t until the next day when I discovered that it was Jake and it was a great shock.”

Meanwhile Mr Schroeder, 17, a chef at The Angel, in Sudbury, added: “We were best friends and it was a massive shock to learn of his death. But the ride was a good send off for him and we are planning another, longer one in July

Mr Page died on Friday, April 6, after the crash which involved his Yamaha motorcycle, a grey Toyota Corolla and a black BMW.

The teenager was taken by the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, with life-threatening injuries, but later died.

The East of England Ambulance Service and Suffolk Accident and Rescue Service (SARS) also attended the scene. The road was closed in both directions for more than five hours to allow a crash investigation to take place and reopened at midnight.

Witnesses or anyone with information or dash cam footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk police on 101, quoting incident number 376 of April 6.
