JAYWICK has been named as the most deprived area in England according to official Government figures published yesterday.
Peter Martin, leader of Essex County Council and Chairman of the Coastal Renaissance Partnership Board, said that the problems facing Jaywick demand national recognition.
“I am extremely disappointed to see Jaywick topping the table of the country’s most deprived neighbourhoods - we have been trying to get the issue on the Government’s radar since 2007,” he said.
At the opposite end of the scale, the Hertfordshire suburb of Chorleywood was named least deprived. Homes there can cost as much as 30 times the price of property in Jaywick.
