Firefighters were called shortly after 2pm today with reports that a field fire had broken out at Bluegates Farm in Wherstead.

Eleven fire engines were called to the site, which is close to the exit to Jimmy’s Farm – just off the A137.

Nichola Adams, from Jimmy’s Farm, said: “We could see the smoke at around 2pm.

“We decided to get people off the site because it was moving fast and it was quite windy.

“We didn’t want anyone to get hurt.”

She added that the farm would be open as usual tomorrow.

The fire comes just days after thousands flocked to the family resort for Jimmy’s Festival.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said crew spent more than an hour putting out the blaze.

He said: “Eleven assorted fire vehicles were on site to tackle the fire, including the Unimog, the all terrain vehicle.

“A stop was called on the incident at 3.18pm.”
