Last month East Anglia saw 43% more sunshine than we would in an average July and just half the average rainfall we would normal expect.

As we move into August, forecasters have been looking back at a month of extreme weather across the east.

From the seemingly unending heatwave to the pounding rain and blustery wind at the end of the month, July was a month of contrasts.

Meteorolgist Dan Holley from forecasters Weatherquest said that the level of sunshine experienced was 43% higher than average making July not only the sunniest July on record but the 2nd sunniest month on record too.

This was helped by the region experiencing less than half of its average rainfall at just 41% of average for the same month between the years 1981 and 2010.

In terms of temperatures the peak in the east for July was 34.7C on July 27, the low was 6.1C on July 4.

These figures helped to make July the second warmest month on record as well as the 2nd warmest July on record with temperatures for July up 2.7C.

Today’s forecast is for dry and warm weather with strong sunshine across the region.

Temperatures today could reach around 28 or 29C according to the Met Office.

This warmer weather is set to continue into tomorrow with temperatures to set tip over 30C.
