An exhibition detailing a significant expansion to the town will go on display today.

If planners rubber stamp the proposals, hundreds of new homes could be built – the first major works in the area for some time.

Persimmon wants to build 300 properties at Longstrops, to the south of the town near Dobbs Lane.

The firm is holding a public exhibition of its plans at the Kesgrave Community Centre today from 4pm to 9pm.

As well as the developers themselves, their architects Fielden and Mawson and agents Savills will also be present.

The plans are for a mix of family homes in a variety of styles and sizes, along with some affordable housing.

The initial plans seek full permission for 100 properties, with outline permission for a further 200. Feedback and comments are invited by February 13.

Oliver Hurlock, land manager at Persimmon Homes Anglia, urged Kesgrave residents to take a look at the proposals for the area.

“We are pleased to reveal our early plans for this development and would very much encourage local residents to come along and give us their views on these initial proposals in order to help shape the development,” he said.

The proposed development would be one of the largest to have been seen in the area in recent years – and is effectively an extension to Kesgrave’s Grange Farm community.

The planning application for the development is expected to be considered by planners at Suffolk Coastal council later in the year.
