With US president Donald Trump on UK soil last week, it’s apt to look back to 1981 – when people in Kesgrave were celebrating our friendship and links with America.
The community held a USA Day with a host of special themed activities, with youngsters particularly enjoying and getting involved in the event.
East Suffolk has always had strong links with America stretching back to the days of the Second World War through its air bases and defence communications installations.
The day in Kesgrave featured a big fancy dress parade and judging with youngsters dressed as the Statue of Liberty, red Indians, pilgrim fathers and American football players, plus displays by cheerleaders, and a range of stalls and refreshments.
