POLICE were last night hunting a knife-wielding robber who burst into a petrol station and threatened the cashier before fleeing with cash.

The masked man barged into the Jet garage in North Terrace, Mildenhall, at about 7.45pm.

He threatened the female garage worker with a knife before escaping with cash in the direction of Field Road.

Police said the victim was left shaken but unharmed during the terrifying raid.

Officers said the robber was alone when he entered the premises, but could have had an accomplice waiting outside.

Insp Paul Sharp, of Suffolk police said: "At 7.45pm, the Jet garage in North Terrace, Mildenhall, was robbed by a man wielding a knife, who threatened the female cashier and fled with a quantity of cash.

"The offender entered the shop alone but possibly there may have been another person waiting outside. They made off in the direction of Field Road.

"The cashier was unharmed but shaken by the experience. Suffolk police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area and who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously at or near the garage to contact police."

Police described the man as white-skinned, about 5ft 7ins tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a dark blue fleece jacket, blue jeans, a blue baseball cap and a skull mask to cover his face.
