She has been a campaigner, teacher, journalist, restaurateur, writer and viticulturist – but now Lady Carla Carlisle is to become a patron of Ixworth Library.

Lady Carlisle, who lives at the Wyken Hall estate, near Bury St Edmunds, with husband Kenneth, is an ardent supporter of public libraries.

Born in Mississippi, USA, Lady Carlisle has worked for the Washington Post, ABC Television, and more recently as a columnist for Country Life magazine.

She was short-listed for Columnist of the Year in 2011 and Writer of the Year in 2012.

She was also awarded an honorary fellowship of Anglia Ruskin University in 2005.

The Friends of Ixworth Library, which was set up in 2013 to support the library, said it was “delighted” that Lady Carlisle had agreed to become a patron.

The library is one of many community groups in the county which are members of Suffolk Libraries.
