FIGHTER aircraft will begin night flights over Suffolk from next week.

The planes from the 48th Fighter Wing at Royal Airforce Lakenheath are due to start operating on October 29 and will be flying missions untle mid December.

A spokesman for the base said that aircrews flying the wing’s F-15C Eagles and F-15E Strike Eagles are required to train “day and night and during all weather conditions to remain prepared for operations worldwide.”

He added: “The night-flying training provides aircrews here the opportunity to fly and maintain proficiency using night-vision equipment and procedures, which they could not do during daytime hours.”

Flights will not be conducted later than 10pm each night.
