A HEADTEACHER climbed a ladder to place the first piece in a large jigsaw which will monitor efforts by his school to attain a new status.

The climb yesterday by Dave Shorten, head of Stradbroke High School, marked the raising of the first £5,000 in its bid to become a Business and Enterprise School.

Each of the other six pieces of the "accumulator" jigsaw's cartoon figure –designed by student, Jake Townend , will be placed high on the front wall of the school as further £5,000 sums are raised.

Fundraising events have already included a "bad hair day" and a race night.

This week pupils organised an Easter "eggstravaganza" with various stalls and a sponsored volleyball match. Future events include an auction of promises.
