NINE fire crews attended a large blaze at an Essex pub in the early hours of this morning.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service are carrying out an investigation today following the large fire at The Old Anchor pub in Feering, near Kelvedon.

Firefighters were called at 2.45am after smoke was seen coming from the roof of the pub and it was reported that two people were inside the burning building but they were later accounted for.

The fire, which was in the roof, caused the first floor to become heavily smoke logged.

Crews from Coggeshall, Tiptree, Witham, Colchester, and Braintree used 20 sets of breathing apparatus and one thermal image camera during the operation.

The flames were extinguished by 6.15am.
