WATCH: Last moments of John Pordage before he was gunned down and left for dead in Chelmsford
These are the last moments of John Pordage who was shot and left for dead at a Chelmsford petrol station.
Essex Police have released CCTV of 34-year-old Mr Pordage minutes before he was gunned down in the early hours of August 5 last year.
The court heard that Blundell has been angered by flirtatious comments Mr Pordage and a friend had allegedly made towards the teenager’s friend Ella Colgate.
After one of the men was then alleged to have made a comment towards Blundell, a confrontation flared up in which Blundell fired two shots at Mr Pordage, one of which hit him in the chest.
Blundell, then 17, fled the scene.
He and his friends drove to Maldon, setting alight items of clothing on a scrubland near Heybridge Rise.
Blundell then went on the run sparking a large-scale manhunt.
He eventually handed himself in to police in Amsterdam on March 31 and was detained under a European arrest warrant.
The CCTV footage shows Blundell in the hours before the shooting as well as Mr Pordage pulling up to the petrol station in his white van moments before getting into the confrontation.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Martin Pasmore, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “Most reasonable people would consider the verbal exchanges that took place as nothing more than banter.
“A reasonable person would have walked away from a potential confrontation. They wouldn’t have shot someone in a rage.
“My thoughts are very much with John’s family and friends, and I thank them for their support throughout our investigation and the two trials that followed.
“I can only imagine how devastating it is to lose a loved one in such a brutal way and I hope it will give them some small measure of comfort that they now have justice for John.”
