AN 83-year-old man has died after a single-vehicle accident on the A14 today.

The accident happened on the eastbound carriageway close to the Trimley villages at 9.45am.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police this afternoon confirmed early reports that an elderly man driving a green Ford Fiesta died at the scene of the crash after his car apparently came off the road and crashed into a ditch.

One lane of the carriageway reopened at about 10.20am but the rest of the road was closed until 1pm between the Bucklesham junction and the Kirton slip road while roads policing officers gathered evidence.

The man is believed to be from the local area and officers are in the process of informing his next-of-kin.
