Police are appealing for information after a man was crushed between a van and his own skip lorry, causing serious leg injuries.

Officers and paramedics were sent to High Road, Leavenheath, at about 8.40am today following reports that a Vauxhall Vivaro van had collided with a stationary skip lorry – the skip operator was standing near to the vehicle.

The operator, a man in his 50s, suffered ‘serious injuries’ to his legs and was taken to Colchester General Hospital.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We treated a man who suffered injuries to his abdomen and legs.

“His injuries aren’t thought to be life threatening and he has been conveyed to Colchester General Hospital for further treatment.”

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information, to contact them.

They are particularly keen to hear from people who had been operating a refuse truck along that stretch of road who were believed to be in the area at the time.

The road is currently closed while the scene is dealt with.

If you have any information, call PC Dave Shaw at Suffolk Police Headquarters’ Roads Policing and Firearms Operations Unit on 101, quoting CAD 76 of 14/3/14.
